
Gerald Raymond Shearer, 90, of Norton, KS passed away August 15, 2021,
at his daughter’s home in Garden City, KS. He was born March 23, 1931,
in Norton County to Vernon and Rosie (Taylor) Shearer.
Gerald grew up in Norton and was a 1949 Graduate of Norton Community
High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1951-1954. Gerald
married Anita Glenn on September 11, 1955, in Norton. He retired from
the United States Postal Service as a Postmaster at the age of 55.
Gerald was a member of the First Church of God, Harmonson Redd American
Legion Post 63, and the National Rifle Association of America. In his
spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and woodworking. Most
of all, he loved spending time with his family and traveling in his
Motor home with his wife and family.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anita, and
siblings: Arnold, Dale and Eldon Shearer and Dorothy Morford. He is
survived by his son, Steve Shearer and wife Annie of Minden, NE;
daughter, Stacy Geil and husband John of Garden City, KS; four
grandchildren; one great grandchild and siblings: Lonnie Shearer of
Almena, KS, Roger Shearer of Logan, KS, Dean Shearer of Almena, KS and
Doris Linden of Norton, KS.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, August 19, 2021,
at the First Church of God in Norton. Burial with military honors will
follow at the Norton Cemetery.
