HAYS – Manhattan had four wrestlers finish in first place and four place second and won the team title with 267 points at the Bob Kuhn Prairie Classic Friday and Saturday at Hays High School. Phillipsburg had five wrestlers finish third and finished second with 154 points. Hays scored 144.5 points and placed third.
Harley Zimmerman was the Indians lone champ cruising past the field at 144. Zimmerman (25-0) won all five of his matches by either fall or technical fall. He defeated Jamie Ramirez of Greeley West (Colo.) by fall in his first round match Friday. In round two, he defeated Slayde Nuss of Russell by fall. In the quarterfinals, Zimmerman defeated Dayton Fromholtz of Cheylin/St. Francis by technical fall. He then beat Braysen Salinas of Ulysses by technical fall in the semifinals then defeated Manhattan’s Logan Lagerman by fall in the finals.
The Indians Eliljah McCullough (22-2) finished second at 113. After a technical fall win over Phillipsburg’s Brady Russom in the first round, McCullough beat Pratt’s Maddox Riffey 14-13 in the quarterfinals. After a 12-8 win over Tyler Bolt of Sante Fe Trail in the semifinals, McCullough lost to Manhattan’s Ezekiel Witt by fall in the finals.
Dalton Meyers (23-2) placed third at 190. After receiving a first round bye, Meyers won by fall over Buhler’s Lucas Anderson in the quarterfinals. Manhattan’s Landon Dobson defeated Meyers by fall in the semifinals. Meyers then won by fall over Goodland’s Logan Franz in the consolation semifinals then defeated Huguton’s Daniel Tinoco 17-6 in the third place match.
Tacoma Augustine placed fifth for Hays at 126. Corbin Luck was sixth at 157 and Will Linenberger sixth at 285.
