
William “Bill” Reiter, age 84, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022, in Hays, Kansas. Bill was born July 7, 1937, in Beloit, Kansas, to the late Hubert and Helen (Walsh) Reiter.
Bill honorably served his country in the United States Army as a medical specialist out of Fort Hood, Texas from September of 1957 until January of 1963. He later graduated from Colby Community College with an associates degree. Bill spent most of his career working in the oil field. Then for the last 20 years, enjoyed his retirement by spending time with his kids, family, and friends. His favorite pastimes included golfing, gambling, and watching the Chiefs and Royals. He was also a member of the Ft. Hays VFW Post #9076 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3774.
Bill is survived by the mother of his children, Armellia (Meyer) Reiter; son Allan Reiter (Lisa) of Ellis, Kansas, and their daughters Olivia and Haley; daughters Cynthia Norris of Springfield, Missouri and her daughter Jessica Osbourn (Fred), Deborah Reiter of El Dorado, Kansas, and children Chad McCoy (Karri), Matthew McCoy (Jessica) and Jenna Vice (Nate), and Pamela Thompson (Ron) of Colby, Kansas, and children Zeth Thompson (Jessica), Zachery Thompson, and Zenaeh Siefers (Benjamin); 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and brothers Ben and Edwin Reiter.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sister Connie Storment; and brother Donald Reiter.
Visitation will be held from 8:00-9:00 AM Friday, February 25, 2022, at Schmitt Funeral Home, with a rosary service following the visitation.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 AM at Schmitt Funeral Home with Father Dana Clark as celebrant. Burial will the take place at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery in WaKeeney, where military honors will be performed.
