HAYS – The TMP-Marian baseball team saw their losing streak move to three games Tuesday after they were swept by Great Bend. The Panthers won 7-3 and 15-0 to move to 10-3. The Monarchs are now 4-4. They host Holcomb in a doubleheader Thursday then travel to Russell for two on Friday.
Game 1: Great Bend 7, TMP-Marian 3
The Panthers scored four runs in the top of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie. They
opened the inning with a single and triple then took advantage of three
straight walks and a double.
The Monarchs tied the game 1-1 in the second on Griffin Schumacher’s two-out double which score Garrett Feauto.
Nick Herman’s two-out single in the second scored a run to give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead, but the Monarchs left the bases loaded.
Great Bend scored two in the fifth but the Jace Wentling scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning to tie the game 3-3.
Wentling had three of TMP’s eight hits.
Mark Rack allowed five runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings in relief and took the loss. Cade Morgan made the start and allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts and four walks over 3 2/3 innings.
Game 2: Great Bend 15, TMP-Marian 9, 4 innings
After scoring a run in the first, the Panthers add four second, two in the
third and eight in the fourth,
Jace Wentling and Cade Morgan had the only hits for the Monarchs who were out hit 18-2.
Nick Herman was one of three Monarchs pitchers and allowed five runs on eight hits over 1 1/3 innings and suffered the loss.
