Marvin Earl Johnston Jr.

Marvin Earl Johnston Jr., 77, passed away June 24, 2020, at Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita.  Marvin was born July 11, 1942, in Buffalo, KS to Laurine (Brock) and Marvin Earl Johnston, Sr. Marvin Jr. married Mary Ann Schartz August 22, 1970, in Great Bend. 

Marvin, a previous resident of Great Bend, Kansas City, Wichita, and Grand Lake, had an entrepreneur's heart, having an interest in farming, cattle, and the oil and gas business. He served as a flight medic in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Marvin most recently attended Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Vinita, OK and was a previous member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend.  His favorite pastimes were flying airplanes back in the day, cooking, reading about cars, but above all, he loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a loving and kind man and will be missed by everyone’s life he touched. 

Survivors include wife, Mary Ann Johnston; two sons, John Johnston and wife Christy of Omaha, NE, and Chris Johnston of Omaha, NE; two daughters, Michelle Richards and husband McKenna of New Orleans, LA, and Melesa Coffey and husband Chuck of Wichita; one sister, Sherri Marmie and husband David of Great Bend, KS; and six grandchildren, Gabby, Jacob, Scarlett, Frank, Josie, and Abraham.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Louis Trung Dinh Hoang presiding.  Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery.  Visitation will be Noon to 9:00 p.m., Monday, June 29, with a Vigil and Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Autism Research Institute, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
