
Laverne Elizabeth Niemeth, 90, of Herndon, Kansas, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2020, at Wheat Haven Home in McDonald, Kansas.
She was born Dec. 22, 1929, to Charles F. and Lydia (Micek) Janousek in Beardsley, Kansas.
Laverne married Philip Niemeth Dec. 28, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Herndon. She was a member of St. Mary’s Christian Mothers, she
enjoyed working outside and cleaning houses for women in need of help
as well as cleaning St. Mary’s church and school for several years. Most
of all, she loved taking care of others. Laverne is known as the “pie
lady” among the priests of the Rawlins County Catholic parishes.
Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, Philip; son, Thomas;
daughter, Cynthia; brothers, Rudolph, Edward, Donald, Raymond and
Francis “Chaz” Janousek and sisters, Evelyn Lewis and Doris Marintzer.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Alexander of Arvada, Colo.;
son, Gerald Niemeth and his wife, Kimberly, of Herndon; grandchildren:
Michelle Alexander of Windsor, Colo., Crystal Day and her husband,
Scott, of McCook, Nebr., Kati Latulip of Atwood, Kans., Alicia Larison
and her husband, Zach, of Atwood, Jeremy Bergling of Kansas City, Jared
Niemeth and his wife, Brett, of McCook, Jason Bergling of Baku,
Azerbaijan, Jesse Niemeth of Topeka, Kans.; great-grandchildren: Ayden,
Anahleigh and Chloe Cohen, Bailey and Carson Garcia, Isaiah Stoddard,
Jace Niemeth, Kelly, Trinity and Jace Bergling, Brooke Latulip, Isla
Williams, Jude Bergling and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends.
A vigil will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Herndon. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11
at St. Mary’s, Father Norbert Dlabal officiating. Interment will be at
St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Herndon.
