🥎 Monarchs season ends with loss in state quarterfinals

SALINA — The TMP-Marian Monarchs softball team outhit Uniontown in their quarterfinal matchup at the Class 2-1A state tournament Monday in Salina, but the Eagles took advantage of seven TMP walks and four errors in a 4-3 victory.

The No. 3 vs. No. 7 matchup between the Monarchs and Eagles started as a pitchers’ duel, with the only run coming on a bases-loaded walk by TMP in the top of the third inning to give Uniontown a 1-0 lead.

Despite multiple chances for both teams, neither side could break the 1-0 scoreline until the Eagles scored three runs in the top of the seventh, giving them a 4-0 advantage.

Down to their final three outs, the Monarchs’ offense produced its first runs.

TMP scored on a pitcher’s error, then Brynn Rebel drove in the Monarchs’ second run with a double to left field.

Paige Koenigsman followed with an RBI single to pull the Monarchs within one at 4-3.

But the rally ended with a groundout, stranding the tying run at second base.

Brynn Rebel allowed four runs, one earned, on two hits with seven walks and three strikeouts.

Brynn Schoepf and Paige Koenigsman each collected two hits as the Monarchs outhit Uniontown 8-2.

Koenigsman and Rebel each drove in a run.

Rebel finished 1 for 4 and extended her hitting streak to 33 games.

The Monarchs finished the season 27-3.
