
FHSU Athletics
PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Fort Hays State track and field teams broke two school records, earned three All-MIAA honors, recorded 13 national-qualifying marks and sent nine athletes through the prelim round and into the finals on day two of the MIAA Indoor Championships Saturday.
Nolan Churchman opened the day by finishing off his first-place finish in the heptathlon. He topped the field with 5,304 points. He recorded at least 731 points in all three events on day two, including a daily high of 825 in the 60m hurdles after finishing the race in 8.65. Jonah Remsberg was fifth in the heptathlon with 4,791 points, adding four team points for the Tigers, while Luke Hampl picked up an additional point with his eighth-place finish (4,574).
Hayden Albright broke his own school record in the 400m dash, moving on to the finals Sunday after running in 47.63. Albright and Philip Landrum are both heading to the finals in the 200m dash, with Landrum running in 21.57 and Albright close behind in a personal-best 21.59.
The Tiger men will send a trio of runners to the finals in the 800m run, including Ethan Lang (1:52.16 in prelims), Trever Medina (1:52.16) and Aaron Mangan (1:52.90). FHSU will have one other middle distance runner in the finals with Kaden Wren reaching the finals in the 600m run with a time of 1:12.18.
Mattie Rossi broke a nine-year-old school record in the 600y run, finishing third in prelims with a itme of 1:23.54 to move on to the finals on Sunday. Lyric Holman will also run in the finals of the 60m dash after completing the spring in 7.57.
Regan Hodsden picked up an indoor All-MIAA medal to go along with her award from the cross country season after placing third in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:32.64.
The men's distance medley relay team of Medina, Churchman, Lang and Grant Bradley ended the day with another third-place finish, completing the 4,000 meters in 8:54.61.
The Tigers also brought home team points from Darian Hudgeons in the 5,000m run (8th, 17:53.92) and the women's distance medley relay team of Emily Salmans, Kinley Brown, Hannah Wiebe and Faith Little (7th, 12:25.36).
The Tiger men sit in fifth with 21 points through six events, while the women are seventh with 19 points through seven completed events.
The MIAA Championships will wrap up on Sunday (Feb. 26) beginning at noon, with track events starting at 1:30 p.m.
