⚾ Royals acquire RHP Carlos Duran from Dodgers

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today they have acquired right-handed pitcher Carlos Duran from the Los Angeles Dodgers for left-handed pitcher Kris Bubic.

Duran, who turned 25 last week, has gone 3-2 with 2 saves, a 3.38 ERA (16 ER in 42.2 IP) and 61 strikeouts (12.9 K/9) in 37 appearances (2 starts) this season with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He made his Major League debut in 1 appearance with the Athletics in 2025, before signing a minor league deal with the Dodgers last offseason.

Duran, who is listed at 6-foot-7, 230 pounds, was originally signed by the Dodgers out of the Dominican Republic in 2018. He was acquired by the Athletics in 2025 for Esteury Ruiz.

Bubic, 28, is currently on the 60-day Injured List and has not pitched for the Royals since May 14. Bubic will be a free agent following this season after spending his entire professional career to this point in the Royals organization. He was selected by Kansas City 40th overall in the 2018 First-Year Player Draft and made his Major League debut in 2020.

Bubic was an All-Star with the Royals in 2025 and in parts of seven seasons with the Royals, he went 22-38 with a 4.14 ERA (240 ER in 522.0 IP) in 126 appearances (89 starts). Since returning from Tommy John Surgery in 2024, Bubic is 12-10 with a 2.97 ERA (65 ER in 197.0 IP) in 56 appearances (29 starts).
