HOLCOMB – The TMP-Marian baseball team racked up a season high 18 runs in back-to-back games on their way to a doubleheader sweep of the Holcomb Longhorns on Friday in Holcomb.

GAME 1: TMP 18, Holcomb 6
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Monarchs scored in every inning, including 10 runs in the fifth on their way to an 18-6 victory in five innings.

The two teams traded single runs in the first two innings.

The Monarchs scored on a fielder’s choice; a Grant Nehls ground out only to see Holcomb score on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning.

Jacob Seib singled home a run in the top of the inning for a 2-1 TMP lead. But Holcomb scored on an error in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at two.

In the top half of the inning, the Monarchs loaded the bases with no one out, and Adler Brown singled to right, putting the Monarchs up 3-2.

Two hitters later, Easton Werth walked with the bases loaded, putting TMP up 4-2.

In the next at bat, Brown scored on a wild pitch, and then TMP added two more runs on an error for a 7-2 TMP lead through two and a half innings.

A Connor Breit RBI single in the fourth inning put TMP up 8-2.

In the top of the fifth inning, TMP loaded the bases on back-to-back walks and an error, then pushed across a run on an error and a walk for an 11-2 lead.

With the bases loaded, TMP recorded three straight walks for a 14-2 lead, and a hit by pitch made it 15-2.

A Noah Dreiling RBI single put TMP up 16-2.

The Monarchs added runs on a hit by pitch and a walk for a 17-2 TMP lead through four and a half innings.

Holcomb scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, but TMP held on for the 18-6 victory.

Adler Brown drove in three runs and Nash Dreiling scored three times for the Monarchs.

Caden Dinkel earned the win. He allowed two unearned runs on one hit, with two walks in four innings.

GAME 2: TMP 18, Holcomb 11
The Monarchs and Longhorns found themselves in a shootout in game two of the doubleheader, with the Monarchs coming through with an 18-11 victory.

The Monarchs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a Caden Dinkel double.

After Holcomb got a run back in the second, TMP tacked on two more on a wild pitch and a Grant Nehls RBI single.

Holcomb tied the game at four, scoring three times in the bottom of the third inning.

The Longhorns took the lead, scoring six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, making it 11-7 Holcomb heading into the top of the sixth inning.

The Monarchs loaded the bases with a pair of singles and a hit by pitch.

They then scored four straight runs, one on a hit by pitch and three more on three consecutive walks, tying the game at 11.

Ty Schmeidler’s sacrifice fly broke the tie and put TMP up for good, 12-11.

Caden Dinkel and Adler Brown added RBI singles in the same inning, putting TMP up 15-11.

TMP tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh inning, scoring on a Nehls RBI single and two more on an Adler Brown double, putting TMP up 18-11.

Grant Nehls recorded a career-high four hits and matched his career-high four RBI. Adler Brown and Caden Dinkel added three RBIs.

Jacob Seib earned the win, allowed six runs, five earned in an inning and two-thirds. He struck out one with three walks.

TMP will host Ellis on Monday.
