HAYS – The Thomas More Prep-Marian softball team opened their season with a pair of wins over Sylvan-Lucas Thursday. The Monarchs took the opener 10-1 then won 15-10 in game two.
Game 1: TMP-Marian 10, Sylvan-Lucas

A double by Brynn Rebel
put the Monarchs on the board in the bottom of the first.
A bases-loaded walk by Raegan Allen extended the lead to 2-0 in the second.
The Monarchs scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth. Rebel drew a walk to score a run, Bria Windholz singled which drove in two and Paige Koeningsman doubled to drive in two more.
Rebel (1-0) earned the win after giving up three hits and one unearned run over seven innings with nine strikeouts and two walks.
TMP-Marian had 12 hits in the game. Windholz, Brynn Schoepf, Hannah Rose and Rebel all collected two hits apiece with Windholz and Rebel both driving in three runs.
Game 2: TMP-Marian 15, Sylvan-Lucas

Sylvan-Lucas got on the
board in the top of the first, scoring on a passed ball and RBI single but the
Monarchs answered with four in the bottom of the inning. Brynn Schoepf was hit
by a pitch and scored on a Brynn Rebel triple down the left field line. Rebel tied
the game on an error. With two outs, Bria Windholz moved to third on a wild
pitch then scored on a passed ball to put TMP up 3-2. They scored the fourth
run of the inning on another passed ball.
Three more Monarch runners crossed the plate in the second to extend the lead to 7-3. Paige Koeningsman drew a walk and eventually scored. Piper Simpson hit an inside the park home runs which scored two.
The Monarchs added to the lead in the third when an error scored two runs and Koeningsman singled home another.
Bria Windholz (1-0) earned the win for the Monarchs surrendering eight runs (three earned) on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and six walks.
Rebel went 3-for-3 at the plate and Addison Watson drove in three. The Monarchs drew seven walks and stole 10 bases.
The Monarchs are back in action this afternoon with a doubleheader at MCL rival Russell-Victoria.
