Violet Marie (Gruver) Rutter

Violet Marie (Gruver) Rutter, 97, of Russell, Kansas passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Main Street Manor in Russell.

Violet was born May 24, 1924, in Tinicum Township, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Chester and Olive (Haney) Gruver. She grew up on her parent’s farm in Tinicum Township. She attended Temple University and obtained a degree in Education.

Violet was united in marriage to E. Preston Rutter on June 26, 1948,  in Tinicum Township. This union was blessed with three children; Alexis, R. Kent and Barbara. They made their home in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Illinios, Ohio, Iowa and Louisiana. She moved to Russell, Kansas to be closer to her daughter.

Violet was an Elementary School Teacher. She was a lifelong Lutheran and attended St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution. She enjoyed writing and Geneology.

Violet’s surviving family include her son, Alexis V. Rutter ( Dinah); daughter, Barbara J.R. Dennis (Pastor Roger); brother, Paul Gruver (Ruth); three grandchildren, Lucas M.Dennis, Aaron K. Dennis and Kent E. Dennis; four great grandchildren, Kaden A. Dennis, Adelyne T. Dennis, Caileigh E. Dennis and Caroline Violet Dennis.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband Preston; son, R. Kent Rutter; brothers, Luther Gruver, Darwin Gruver and John Gruver; sisters, Dorothy Stover, Ruth Kreibel, Mildred Ferrara, Marion G. Mellen and Jean Swartz.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial has been established as R.C.A. C.F. – Russell Schools Apple Seed Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
