2 hospitalized after pickups collide in northwest Kansas

THOMAS COUNTY —Two people were injured in an accident before 3:30p.m. Thursday in Thomas County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2003 Chevy pickup driven by Tomas N. Alvarado, 52, Colby, was northbound on County Road 31 and failed to stop at the stop sign at U.S. 83.

The Chevy pickup entered the intersection. A westbound 2019 Ford pickup driven by Severino Barrera-Penaloza, 42, Colorado Springs, Colorado, struck the Chevy pickup. After impact, both vehicles traveled into the north ditch.

EMS transported Alvarado and Barrera-Penaloza to Citizens Medical Center. Alvarado was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
