LIBERAL – The Hays High boys track and field team had seven first place finishes and wins the Western Athletic Conference meet by 41 points over Liberal. The Indians girls finished in fourth place.

Jaren Kanak again led the boys with two first place finishes, taking the 100 meters in a time of 10.37, which is unofficially tied for the fifth fastest in Kansas history. Kanak also won the long jump with a leap of 21’7 1/2”.

Gaven Haselhorst set a new school record in the shot put with a throw of 58’2 3/4”. Jordan Dale cleared 6’4” and won the high jump. Nate Brooks improved his personal best by 30 feet and won the javelin (153’8”). Tucker Veach took the pole vault (13’6”) and Trey Adams won the shot put (168’3”).

Reanna Green won two events and was named the WAC Girls Track Athlete of the Year. The senior wo the long jump (17’11”) and triple jump (36’0”).

Tony Crough was named the Western Athletic Conference Coach of Year.

The Indians will compete in the Valley Center Regional on Thursday (May 20).
