Eisenhower Gettysburg Farm to be discussed during Lunch & Learn

Posted Jun 19, 2020 3:06 PM

ABILENE - The next Eisenhower Presidential Library/Museum  Lunch & Learn program is Thursday, June 25 at noon. The virtual program will begin right at noon, so please sign in early.

Life at the Farm ("I Don't Suppose You Could Ask for More")will be presented by guest speaker Alyce Evans, Eisenhower National Historic Site Park Guide.

With the purchase of their Gettysburg Farm, Ike and Mamie finally achieved their dream of owning their very own home after 35 years of marriage. They dreamed of retiring quietly in the countryside.

However, their farm was much more than a simple retirement home. It served as a political and diplomatic tool throughout the President's two terms as well as a place for him to recuperate all while running a thriving cattle operation. This discussion explores the many facets of the place Ike and Mamie called home.

Evans has worked for the National Park Service for more than a decade and as a full-time guide at the Eisenhower National Historic Site for two years.
