KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State senior golfer Morgan Brasser has been named MIAA Women's Golfer of the Week for a second time this season, announced Wednesday (March 20) by the league office.
Brasser picked up the honor after winning the Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational in Bolivar, Mo., her fifth-career tournament victory. She finished the week with a two-round total of 1-over 145. Brasser opened the tournament with a 1-over 73 in round one before firing an even-par 72 in round two. She birdied three of her last four holes to secure the win, including a birdie on her final hole of the week to win by one stroke.
The Andale, Kan. native led the field with seven birdies through the 36-hole event, two more than any other competitor in the field. She led the field in par-5 scoring at 2-under and in par-4 scoring at even par. Brasser now has five top-five finishes in eight events this season. The second round was her 18th career round with a score at-or-under par.
This is Brasser's sixth weekly honor from the conference in her career. She lowered her season stroke average to 74.06 and her career stroke average to 76.6.Brasser and the rest of the Tigers will next travel to St. Joseph, Mo. for the Holiday Inn Express Women's Spring Invitational March 25-26, where Brasser is a two-time champion.
