HAYS - The TMP-Marian Monarch baseball team rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to win game one of their doubleheader with Ellinwood 4-1 Thursday at the TMP Field. The Monarchs won the second game 17-7 and improve to 6-2 on the season.
The Monarchs play a doubleheader at Abilene Friday.
Game 1: TMP-Marian 4, Ellinwood 1The Monarchs rally with three runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 1-1 tie. Caden Morgan walked and Bryce Conner singled to open the sixth. Both scored when Joseph Mindrup reached on an error with two outs. Jace Wentling then followed with an RBI single to center.
Wentling and Mark Rack combined to pitch a one-hitter. Wentling allowed one run on one hit with seven strikeouts and five walks over five innings. Rack struck out four without allowing a hit in the final two innings and picked up the save.
Game 2: TMP-Marian 17, Ellinwood 7
The Monarchs fell
behind 4-0 in the top of the first but answer with two runs in the bottom of
the inning then score five in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth
and five in the fifth.
Mark Rack and Caden Morgan both had three hits and Bryce Conner drove in three runs.
Bryce Conner allowed one run on one hit in two innings of relief and picked up the win.
