2 hospitalized after driver makes u-turn, strikes motorcycle

PHILLIPS COUNTY—was injured in an accident just before 8:30a.m. Monday in Phillips County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2003 Ford pickup driven by Karlin, Larry G. Karlin, 71, Phillipsburg, was westbound on U.S. 36 nine miles east of Phillipsburg.

The driver attempted to make a u-turn and struck an eastbound 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by  Brett A. Sykes, 53, Phillipsburg. Sykes and a passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.

EMS transported Sykes to Hays Medical Center and a passenger Danielle L. Green, 31, Phillipsburg, to the Phillips County Hospital. She was later airlifted to  Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Karlin was not injured and properly restrained at the time of the accident.

Both occupants of the motorcycle were wearing helmets, according to the KHP.
