HAYS – One day after losing to rival Great Bend in extra innings, the Hays High softball team gets a walk-off win in extra innings over Liberal Friday at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex.
The Indians are now 6-5 overall and 4-5 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Sydney Fagan’s ground ball to third scored Lakyn Zimmerman with one out in the eighth. Zimmerman led off the inning with a walk then advanced to second on Morgen Berry’s single. Brenna Schwien’s grounder to third advanced Zimmerman to third and Berry to second.
Liberal scored four runs in the first to grab the early lead. The Indians got one run in the bottom of the first then took the lead with four in the fourth. Raegan Winter drove in a run with a single to right. Elle Dreiling followed with an RBI double to pull the Indians within a run. Harlee Danner then gave them the lead when she reached on an error which scored two.
The Redskins scored two in the top of the seventh but the Indians forced extra innings for the second straight game with a run in the bottom of the seventh when Fagan scored on a wild pitch.
