Erin Ann Hughes, 64, of Hays, Kansas, died on February 1st, 2026, at Hays Medical Center.

Erin was born Erin Ann McGinnis on June 18th, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Hays, KS, to Darrell D. McGinnis and Grace K. Staab. She graduated from Hays High School in 1979 and earned a degree in Early Childhood Education from Fort Hays State University in 1983. While attending college, she met David B. Hughes, and they were married on June 16th, 1984 at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays.

Erin lived her life as a reflection of God's grace. She was a loving mother of five children, whom she cherished deeply and guided with patience, wisdom, and unwavering faith. Her love extended far beyond her own family, with her motherly care reaching countless others who would also consider her a 'mom'. Her life was marked by a quiet strength, a gentle spirit, and a heart that embraced all of God's children without hesitation or judgment.

She was a teacher for 20 plus years, shaping young lives with kindness, encouragement, and a steady belief in each child's worth. Her compassion and conviction extended far beyond the classroom. Erin dedicated herself to mentoring others walking alongside them with patience and love. She believed deeply in redemption, restoration, and the power of God's healing grace.

Known as a fierce prayer warrior, Erin carried others in prayer faithfully and tirelessly. She was warm, kind, and comforting, with a wisdom that brought peace to those seeking guidance. Her words were thoughtful. Her presence was calming. Her love was sincere.

Erin leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and unconditional love. Her impact lives on through her brothers, nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren, life long friends, and all who were blessed to know her.

Erin was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother Martin, who died in childhood.
