COLBY - The girls individual awards were released by the Orange & Black Classic following the conclusion of the championship game played Monday night. The game was delayed due to weather on Saturday. Goodland won the championship over Colby 42-22 for their first Orange & Black title since 1986. The victory also extends the Cowgirls winning streak to 25 straight games.
Carly Lang, Katie Linenberger and Molly Martin were named to the All-Tournament team. Aspen Melvin and Claire Humphrey made the All-Academic Team.
The Hays girls finished in 3rd place as a team.
The boys awards were announced on Saturday following the boys championship game. The Hays boys also finished 3rd.
Landen Clark and Devin Schmidtberger were honored on the All-Academic Team. Chason VanDerWege and Jack Weimer were named to the All-Tournament Team. Dawson Ruder earned the "Off The Bench" award for the tournament's top sixth man. It is the fourth time in five years Hays has won the award. Trey Adams (2019), Jace Linenberger (2020) and Jordan Dale (2021) also won the award. Ruder is the 11th Indian in the team's 20th appearance tournament appearance to earn the 6th man award.
Hays High returns to action on January 31 in Scott City.
