Raymond C. 'Ray' Legleiter

Raymond C. “Ray” Legleiter, 74, Hays, Kansas, formerly of La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021, at his home.

Ray was born January 29, 1947, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Michael A. and Frances F. (Kreutzer) Legleiter.  He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas, before moving to Hays, Kansas, in 2020.  A 1965 graduate of Schoenchen High School, Schoenchen, Kansas, he retired as station manager at the Rush Center Co-op, Rush Center, Kansas, after 34 years.  He was then employed at Essex in Hoisington, Kansas, for eight years.  He spent his remaining work days working part time at the La Crosse City Landfill, La Crosse, Kansas.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus Council 2970, both of La Crosse, Kansas.

On May 29, 1971, he married Janice “Jan” Wilcoxson at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.

Survivors include:  his wife, Jan Legleiter, Hays, Kansas; his son, Lee Michael “Mike” Legleiter (Randi), La Crosse, Kansas; his daughter, Rayna Bittel (Blake), Salina, Kansas; two grandsons, Steven Atteberry, and Mason Brackney; a great grandson, Kason Michael Ray Pfeifer; and two sisters, Elsie Jacobs, Lakewood, Colorado, and Dorothy Roth, Mulvane, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvin Legleiter, Paul Legleiter, and Gilbert Legleiter; and two sisters, Rosanna Herrman, and Cilerina “Sally” Kuhn.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 4, 2021, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. 

Funeral service will be Monday, April 5, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Mark Sizemore officiating.  Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.
