👟 FHSU track and field teams both ranked in top 20

NEW ORLEANS - The Fort Hays State track and field teams both rank in the top 20 in Division II in this week's USTFCCCA Outdoor National Rating Index, released Tuesday (April 12) by the coaches association. The men are slotted 15th this week, while the women are currently ranked No. 19 in the country.

The Tigers currently have 14 marks that rank in the top 10 in Division II this season and 15 provisional qualifying marks overall.

Each team dipped two spots in the regional rankings this week, with the men moving to fifth and the women now in eighth.

Both the men's and women's teams have four event squads ranked in the top 10 nationally, with the women's 400m hurdle squad currently ranked first in DII. Other top-ranked women's teams include the 100m hurdles team in eighth, the javelin team in ninth and the 100m dash crew in 10th. The men have three teams in the top five, including the third-ranked pole vault squad, the fourth-ranked triple jump team, the fifth-ranked javelin crew and an 800m run unit that ranks eighth.

This week the Tigers will send 18 athletes to Azusa, Calif. for the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 13-15) while the remainder of the squad competes at the Loper Invitational in Kearney, Neb. (April 15).
