NORTON — The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has started work on the first of two highway resurfacing projects in Rooks County.
Crews are currently completing a surface recycle and chip seal on approximately 18 miles of U.S. 24 from the Graham County line east to near Cypress Street in Stockton.
The second project involves a mill and overlay on approximately 8.5 miles of K-18 from the Graham County line east to 5 Road near Palco. Work is expected to begin near the end of July.
Traffic through each work zone will be reduced to one lane where crews are actively working and directed by flaggers and a pilot car. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.
KDOT reminds motorists to stay alert, follow posted signs and refrain from using hand-held mobile devices in all active work zones.
Dustrol Inc., of Towanda, is the primary contractor for the $3 million U.S. 24 project. Bettis Asphalt and Construction, of Topeka, is the primary contractor for the $3.4 million K-18 project.
Both projects are expected to be completed in early September, conditions permitting.
