KEARNEY, Neb. – Fort Hays State Tennis fell 7-0 to Nebraska-Kearney on Wednesday. Janae Montoya and Ines Steeman were victorious for the Tigers in doubles play, but the Lopers took all of the other matches contested for the day. FHSU is now 8-9 overall.
Montoya and Steeman scored a 6-2 win over Klaiber and Zamora of UNK at the No. 3 doubles position. However, the Lopers won the No. 1 match 6-1 and the No. 2 match 6-2.
Molly Gaddis had the closest singles match contested at the No. 2 position. She was just one game shy of forcing a second-set tiebreak, falling 6-3, 7-5.
Steeman won three games within the second set of her match at No. 4. Diana Souza won a game in each set at the No. 6 position. Montoya (No. 3) and Bethan Gill (No. 1) each won one game within their singles matches.
The Tigers finish out the regular season this weekend at home in Hays when they play host to Central Oklahoma (Fri. Apr. 24) and Newman (Sat. Apr. 25).
