👟 FHSU records seven qualifying marks in Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Fort Hays State track and field teams continued last chance weekend Saturday (May 13) with a productive afternoon at the Loper Twilight, recording seven national qualifying marks on the day.

Dayton Williams made the most of his last chance opportunity, improving his PR by 1.75 inches with a clearance of 6-11.5 to leap into a tie for 16th on the NCAA DII performance chart. The selection committee takes a minimum of 20 entries in individual open events, 14 in relays and 16 in multi-events.

Philip Landrum ran his way into another event at nationals, finishing second with a personal-best time of 20.80. The time currently ranks 12th in the country, while his school-record, conference-championship time of 10.23 in the 100m dash ranks 11th nationally.

The men's 4x100m relay team of Landrum, Hayden AlbrightToby Wahlmeier and Nolan Churchman improved their season-best by .11 seconds with a national-qualifying time of 40.71, good for second on the day.

Albright was third in the 400m dash, crossing the line in a national-qualifying time of 47.83.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Lyric HolmanReba MaderTaylor Savolt and Mattie Rossi wrapped up the evening with the lone victory for the Tigers, finishing first with a time of 3:45.14. The squad sits in 14th on the national qualifying chart with their school-record time of 3:44.72.

Rossi and Holman also recorded national qualifying performances individually, with Holman placing second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.34 and Rossi placing third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.16.

Churchman also ran in both hurdles events, placing second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.96 and third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.40.

Four Tiger middle-distance runners are slated to wrap up the last chance weekend on Sunday (May 14) at the Mines Last Chance meet in Golden, Colo.
