Roy A. Hustead

Roy Alan Hustead, age 73, of Hays, Kansas died Saturday, October 17, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.  He was born March 1, 1947, in Breckenridge, Texas to Roy F. and Doris (McKinney) Hustead.  He married Carol J. (Koerner) Myers on May 24, 1975, at Hays, Kansas.

He was a production foreman with Phillips Petroleum for 30 years and a Safety Coordinator with Murfin Drilling for five years.  He retired and moved to Hays in 2012 after having lived in Anadarko, OK; Morgantown, WV; Bowie, TX; Kilgore, TX; Odessa, TX; and Hobbs, NM.   He grew up in Shidler, Oklahoma, he was a 1965 graduate of Shidler High School and a graduate of Oklahoma State University.  He was a veteran of the US Army Air Force, and served from 1969 to 1975.  He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christian Catholic Church, Antonino, and a church lector.  He was a board member of High Plains Mental Health, and did radio ads for High Plains Mental Health. 

He also did radio ads for the Catholic radio station.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Hustead, of the home; children, Lee Allen Myers and wife, Ingrid, Bridgeport, TX; Gina (Myers) Shultz and husband, Jeff, Midland, TX; one sister, Cindy Finley, Oklahoma City, OK; one brother-in-law, Bruce Otzmann, Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren, Lance Myers (Hannah); Brandan Myers; McKynlee Shultz; Holli Olmos (Jesse); Nicholas Kleeb (Casey); Jackson Kleeb; three great grandchildren, Adric Olmos, Dylan Myers and Sadie Myers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Terri Otzmann.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 24, 2020, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, Antonino, Kansas.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas with military honors by the Hays V.F.W. Post #9076.

A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:00 P.M. Friday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.  Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Saturday, at the church.
