Dogs took over the Hays Aquatic Park on Aug. 22 as the facility hosted its annual Dog Swim, giving four-legged swimmers one last chance to splash around before the pool closes for the season.
The $5-per-dog event opened the zero-depth entry pool exclusively to canine swimmers, with dogs of all shapes and sizes joining in on the fun. Border collies, golden retrievers, a chocolate Labrador, Australian shepherds, corgis, cockapoos, a miniature American Eskimo, a Maltese-Yorkie-Shih Tzu mix and plenty of other breeds made an appearance.
Ahead of the event, the pool’s water chemistry was adjusted specifically for the dogs. Hays Aquatic Park Director Grant Lacy began removing the pool chemicals earlier in the week in preparation for the end-of-season swim.
The Dog Swim gave the dogs a chance to make new friends while enjoying the last swim of the season.
