Dennis Dean Korbelik, age 81, of Kanorado passed away February 22, 2023, at his home, after a short illness.
Dennis was born in Goodland to Joe and Genevieve (Fink) Korbelik of Kanorado, where he went to school and grew up in a home built by his grandfather, Clayton Briggs, one of Kanorado’s founding fathers.
The family story on Dennis catching a train ride, without permission, and being little more than a toddler at the time, spoke to his adventurous spirit.
Most of his working life was doing farm related jobs. Dennis always said he never retired. He planted fruit trees, had a small lawn mowing business, was a two-term mayor, and took care of business in timely ways. He was also caretaker of his mother who wanted to live in her own home until she passed away shortly after her 100th birthday.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents whose original tree claim, officially became Briggs Park in 1976; parents, Joe and Genevieve; sister, Linda; and wife, Donna Rhoads-Korbelik.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Dagmar of Kanorado; daughter, Deneyce (David) Ackerman of Wamego, Kansas; grandchildren, Emma, Cooper and Maegan; several Korbelik relatives in the Goodland and Burlington area; and Jack Day a high school classmate, now living in New Mexico.
Memorials may be designated to the Briggs Park Renovation Fund or a charity of your choice and may be left at the service or sent in care of Bateman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 278, Goodland, KS 67735. Information and condolences www.batemanfuneral.com
