During Brooklyn Schaffer's sophomore year, she had a conversation with her older sister. The talk centered around volleyball, a sport the two had played since elementary school. Brooklyn said she thought she could go on to the next level to play volleyball.

At the time Albany was playing for the Warhawks of University of Lousiana-Monroe and had the insight that Brooklyn was looking for. Brooklyn said the conversation led to Albany helping her start the recruiting process.

That process came to an official end Friday as Brooklyn signed her National Letter of Intent to play for Florida State College at Jacksonville. The two year college will be the spring board that Brooklyn looks to use in getting to another school. Her head coach the next two seasons comes with a wealth of experience including qualifying for the Olympics in Beach Volleyball for Puerto Rico.

First year head coach Shannon Funk said that one of the main skills that sets Schaffer up well for college is her ability to read the ball on the other side of net from her libero position. That allows her to be in the correct position defensively.
