Ernest 'Dick' Zachman

Ernest “Dick” Zachman, age 102, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society, Ellis. He was born May 20,1918, in Trego County, Kansas to John J. and Mary (Armbrister) Zachman. On December 25, 1947, he married Adabelle Katherine Aust at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ellis, Kansas.

Ernest was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he was a past council member. He was also a past board member of Farm Bureau. He enjoyed welding and playing the accordion. Ernest was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and "greatpa". Ernest served in the US Army during WWII from January 1942 to December 1945, in the Panama Canal and with the European Theater in Germany.

He is survived by his wife, Adabelle Zachman, Ellis, KS; a son Darrell Zachman (Annie), Hays, KS; a daughter Diane Henderson (Floyd Henderson), Ellis, KS. Grandchildren: Erin (Jerry) Rogers, Hedgesville, WV; Micah Kruckenberg (Casey), Phoenix, AZ; Amanda Dolechek (Luke), Wichita, KS. Great grandsons: Isaac Rogers, Ellis, KS; Christian Rogers, Hedgesville, WV. Sisters: Martha Massier, Ellis, KS; Dorothy (Milton) Dietz, Hays, KS; Helen (Don) Deines, Wakeeney, KS. Brother: Harry Zachman, Wichita, KS.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Zachman; a grandson, Evan Henderson; brothers, Oscar Zachman, Raymond Zachman, and infant brother Wayne Zachman; and sisters, Anna Hamburg and Frieda Allphin.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, April 10, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellis. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Ellis. Memorial visitation will be Friday 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM all at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS 67637.
