Fort Hays State Football heads on the road this weekend to Joplin, Missouri where it will take on Missouri Southern. Kickoff is set for 2 pm on Saturday. The Tigers bring in a seven-game win streak against the Lions, with 2010 being the last time the Lions took a game in the series history. The Tigers have won four straight meetings between the teams in Joplin.

After a pair of tough losses to start to the season, the Tigers look to build momentum to get back into the thick of the MIAA standings race. They took the first step last week by posting a dominating 72-0 win over Lincoln University in Hays. Only two teams remain unbeaten in the conference, No. 16 ranked Nebraska-Kearney at 3-0 and No. 2 ranked Northwest Missouri State at 2-0.

With FHSU winning the last seven meetings between the teams, FHSU has jumped into the lead in the all-time series at 17-13-1. In the last three meetings (2017, 2018, and 2019), FHSU outscored MSSU by a combined score of 147-30. A pair of 41-point wins for FHSU over the last three meetings (2017 and 2019) are the largest wins in the series history for FHSU. The last time Missouri Southern won a game against FHSU was in 2010 by a score of 41-31 in Hays. The last win for MSSU on its home field over FHSU was in 2008 by a score of 28-0.

Like FHSU, Missouri Southern is coming off its first win of the season last week. The Lions scored a late touchdown at Central Oklahoma for a come-from-behind 14-10 win. MSSU has struggled a bit to generate offense this season so far, averaging just 277 yards of total offense and 10.3 points per game. The most points scored in a game by the Lions so far this season was 17 in a Week 2 loss to Northeastern State (21-17).

Fort Hays State is averaging 36.7 points per game and 497.3 yards of total offense per game. The Tigers rank fourth in NCAA Division II for passing yards per game (348.7). The Tigers are surrendering an average of 17.7 points per game to opponents.
