DENVER — Fort Hays State fell at MSU Denver, 2-0, on Friday. The Tigers had a strong first half, generating all four of their shots and five corner kicks before halftime, but MSU Denver took control in the second half to win on its home turf. The Roadrunners moved to 1-1-3 overall, while the Tigers moved to 2-2 overall.
The Tigers had a strong offensive surge early, taking all four of their shots in the first 11 minutes of the contest. Taylor Hill and Olivia Mouw both took shots that were saved, while a Berkley Sparks free kick just outside the box hit the crossbar, but deflected away.
The Roadrunners took control of the match in the second half, holding Fort Hays State without a shot or corner kick. MSU Denver held an 8-0 advantage in shots after halftime and earned seven corner kicks. Maya Woods scored the game-winning goal for MSU Denver, while Grace Johnson added a goal with just over 11 minutes to play securing the 2-0 victory.
Katie Stoskopf started in goal for the Tigers and played the first 45 minutes without allowing a goal. Makayla Charles played the second half and recorded two saves. Morgan Shirley played all 90 minutes in goal for MSU Denver and recorded two saves.
Fort Hays State will remain in the Denver area and play at Colorado Christian in Lakewood on Sunday (Sept. 13) at noon Central Time / 11 a.m. Mountain Time.
