WICHITA - Hays High's season came to a close in the opening round of Regional play at Westurban in Wichita Tuesday. The Indians fell to Great Bend 3-1.
The Panthers plated two runs in the second inning on just one hit but took advantage of four walks.
Hays got their only run in the top of the fourth inning. Greg Hughes led the inning off with a double. Carter Graham drove in courtesy runner Johnathan Cano to cut the lead down to 2-1.
Great Bend got the run back in the bottom of the same inning for the final margin.
Greg Hughes took the loss for Hays, pitching six innings allowing three runs. He struck out three, walked five and allowed three hits. Carson Umphries notched the win for Great Bend. He allowed one run on four hits, striking out three and hitting one batter.
The Indians' season ends at 11-10. Great Bend moves to the Regional Championship at 12-9.
