Michael Ray Wilson

Michael Ray Wilson, 74, passed away December 22, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  He was born July 26, 1947, in Wichita, to John Francis "Pat" and Helen Marie (Massey) Wilson.                      

Michael served in the United States Navy on the USS Independence for four years.  He worked for the Wichita Water Department.  Michael attended and graduated from Fort Hays State University.  He taught school and coached in Victoria, KS, before working in the Oklahoma oil fields.  Michael retired from the Kansas Corporation Commission, as a petroleum regulatory technician. 

He loved all sports, but mostly he loved the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals.  Michael enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.  Later in life, he enjoyed reading, gardening, working in the yard, and taking gambling trips with his wife of 51 years, Mary.  Michael never knew a stranger.  He was a devout friend of Bill, and enjoyed regular meetings with his friends at Saint E’s Sobriety Society.  Michael loved his family and friends very much. 

He is survived by:  his wife, Mary; daughter, Karen Sweeney; granddaughters, Conner and Kendall Sweeney; great-grandson, Trey; siblings, Dean (Sue) Wilson, Patty Wilson, Kevin (Dawn) Trantham, and Shane Trantham; nieces, Deana Wilson, Margaret (Eric) Keicher, Beth (Matt) Deller, and Elizabeth Trantham; nephew, Danny Trantham; and numerous cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by:  his parents, Helen M. Trantham and John Francis ‘Pat Wilson; and infant stepsister, Tonita Trantham.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary.  Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Funeral Honor Guard.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to service time, with the family present, on Friday, January 14, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Foundation, American Cancer Society, Saint E’s Sobriety Society, or the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory. 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
