Fort Hays State University's Hispanic College Institute is set to return to campus early this summer, June 4-7. HCI is a free, four-day, three-night residential program to provide high school students with the necessary knowledge and tools to enter and persist in college.

The program provides practical college application and financial aid information and allows students to engage with successful Hispanic role models who will help inform them about educational opportunities.

The program is open to the current class of 2026 and 2027 high school students with a 2.5 GPA or above.

HCI students will:

  1. Stay on FHSU's campus
  2. Learn about the importance of going to college
  3. Learn about the college admission process
  4. Improve public speaking, presentation, and interviewing skills
  5. Learn how to navigate financial aid and FAFSA application processes
  6. Engage with Hispanic leaders, mentors, and role models, and discover how they made their college and career choices
  7. Meet with FHSU admissions and financial aid representatives
  8. Compete for a variety of scholarships

As a residential program, students will be living in one of the traditional residence halls on the FHSU campus. During the institute, there will be separate wings for male and female students with restricted access to both and shared common areas. Each room will be shared by two students. More information about FHSU’s residential facilities is available at http://www.fhsu.edu/reslife/.

The program provides food, transportation (within the state of Kansas), and lodging free of charge, but students will need to bring sleeping bags, pillows, and toiletry items.

The application deadline for the HCI is May 1. The committee will review all applications and notify all students accepted to the program no later than May 21.

Those interested in attending can contact Hugo Perez at [email protected] or 785-628-4020 to inquire about availability.
