Mary Lucille Marcotte

Mary Lucille Marcotte of Zurich passed into her eternal resting place on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at the Redbud Village in Plainville, KS at the age of 92.

She was born on January 28, 1929, to Joseph Bernard Garvert and Ida Catherine (Weachter) Garvert in Plainville. Mary graduated from Plainville High School in 1946 and then attended Marymount College in Salina for one year before returning to Rooks County. For a time, she worked for Gilson’s Drug Store and Donavan’s Car Dealership, both in Plainville. Later in life she worked as a secretary at the Palco Grade and High Schools. She was a lifetime member of the St. Anne’s Sodality and was active in the Rooks County Extension programs.

Mary was united in marriage to Adelore Edward Marcotte on April 24, 1952, and settled in Palco. After the death of Adelore in July of 1965, she moved the family to a farm outside of Zurich, where she remained until her health deteriorated.

Mary is survived by her children, Tim Marcotte of Zurich, Cary (Lydia) Marcotte of Virginia Beach, VA, Rod (Lisa) Marcotte of Hays, KS, Cathy (Richard) Haverfield of Tulsa, OK, Frank (Denise) Marcotte of Clarksville, MD, and Mary Jean Scott of Susanville, CA; siblings, William Garvert of Arlington, VA, Leona Vinzant of Wetumpka, AL, and Dorothy Ackerman of Monte Vista, CO; ten grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ida Garvert; husband, Adelore Marcotte; brothers, Leonard, Don, and Roy Garvert; and a granddaughter, Christin Haverfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at 10 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Visitation will be on Monday at the funeral home from 2PM until 8PM with a Vigil Service and Rosary starting at 7PM.
