
Steven Douglas “Steve” Arnold, 81, of Herndon, KS passed away March 8,
2021, at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin. He was born on March 19,
1939, in Farnam, NE to Forrest and Leah (Stevens) Arnold.
Steve’s father died when Steve was 2 and then his mother and 7
children moved to Boulder, CO. Steve and his brother Don graduated high
school in Cambridge, NE where they lived with their Aunt Vera and Uncle
Lester Johnson. He was in the army for 2 years on the bubby system with
his brother, Don. They served in Germany.
Steve married Arian Olson on August 20, 1964, in Boulder, CO. They
enjoyed Jeeping in the mountains, fishing with his buddies, riding his
Indian motorcycle, and staying at the cabin they owned in the mountains.
He was a volunteer with the Boulder Emergency Squad along with several
of his buddies which resulted in many interesting stories. Steve worked
as a manager at Neodata but took early retirement due to health issues.
He and Arian moved to the Olson homestead in 1986. They were owners
of Times Past Antiques in Oberlin, but later moved that business to the
farm. They were members of the Herndon Covenant Church. Steve was a
long-term kidney transplant recipient which was received from his nephew
Pat Craig in 2001. He enjoyed working with antiques, and especially
restoring old furniture, rebuilding horse-pulled wagons and other
antiques.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ed (Wanda)
Arnold, Wayne (Delma Jean) Arnold, Don Arnold and sisters, Carole (Curt)
Craig, Geraldine (Doug) Morris, and Joy (Don) Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Arian of the home; sister-in-law, Nione (Mike) Rhodin, brother-in-law, Galen Olson; 18 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews, and many friends.
