The Community Christmas Dinner has had the opportunity of providing a Christmas meal for residents of Hays and the surrounding area for the previous 11 years. It has been a blessing to serve others within our community and to see the community come together to celebrate Christmas! After consideration and conversation, the team has agreed that we are not in a position to host the annual Community Christmas Dinner this year.
We are thankful the community has several wonderful programs that assist with food provision year round. This year the Schmidt Foundation in collaboration with United Way are generously providing an alternative since gathering together is not an option. We encourage those who need/desire a free Christmas meal to sign up. The meal will be available for curbside pickup on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at either The Press (230 E. 8th St.) or Thirsty's (2704 Vine St.) from 3 to 7:00 p.m. Please sign up at www.liveunited.us/community-christmas-dinner. The deadline to sign up is Dec. 16.
The physical coming together as a community to celebrate Christ has blessed and reached many, and for some it has become a treasured tradition. We are saddened to not be able to offer that again this year but encourage the community to not lose focus of the real reason for the season. There is and will always be hope to hang onto and His name is Jesus. Merry Christmas!
