ELLIS — During a special meeting at Monday night, the Ellis City Council named an interim police chief following the immediate resignation of Chief Christopher Krom.
After the meeting was opened, the council moved into a 10-minute executive session.
Following the session, the resignation was announced by Ellis Mayor David McDaniel.
Krom was not present at the meeting.
Currently, two full-time officers remain with the department, including the newly appointed interim chief Sgt. Avery Smith.
Smith was unanimously appointed by the council.
The department has been filling shifts with part-time officers from other area law enforcement agencies as the search for full-time officers was ongoing.
After the completion of another executive session, the council approved the authorization of the mayor to create a hiring committee and approved the creation of advertising for the position.
Those measures were also passed unanimously by the board.
