⚾ Larks cruise past Dodge City for 10th-straight win

DODGE CITY – Peyton Ebbing had four hits, Luis Garcia drove in three runs and the Hays Larks picked up their second-straight run-rule win over the Dodge City Wednesday night, beating the A’s 13-3 at Cavalier Field.

After both teams scored two in the first inning, the Larks (23-4, 13-2 RMBL) took the lead for good with a run in the second on a Trent Baker sacrifice fly.

They added three in the fourth on an RBI double from Cash Benavidez followed by a two-run homer from Luis Garcia.

The Larks scored seven runs in the final two innings to put the game away. Damian Ruiz scored on a wild pitch then Garcia drove in John Ceccoli with a single in the seventh. Tyler LaRue, Ceccoli and Benavidez all had RBI singles in the eighth. Ebbing drove in two with a double.

Kaleb Meredith (2-0) was one of four Larks pitchers and picked up the win in relief despite giving up a home run in the fifth. Starter Kam Walton allowed two runs on three hits over the first four innings. Dayne Pengelly pitched two scoreless frames and Jeff Lodes struck out two in a scoreless eighth.

WIN STREAK

The Larks have won 10-staight games. It’s their longest win-streak since winning 14 in-a-row in July of 2021.

HIT PARADE

The Larks had 17 hits which is the second most in a game this summer. They had 24 hits in a 21-6 win at the Colorado Springs CageRats on June 24.

EBBING AND FLOWING

Payton Ebbing had his second four-hit game in less than a week. The freshman catcher from the University of Tennessee also had four hits vs. the Colorado RoughRiders on July 9.

UP NEXT

The Larks return home Friday to open a three-game series with the Denver Cougars, It’s the start of a 16-game homestand to close out the regular season. Admission will be free courtesy of A&A Coors and Insurance Planning.
