GOODLAND – The TMP baseball team earned a split doubleheader at Goodland on Thursday.
Goodland took an early 3-0 lead in game one on their way to a 5-1 win.
TMP’s Jace Wentling and Mark Rack each collected a pair of hits.
Caden Morgan allowed five runs, four earned, with five strikeouts and three walks in six innings.
The Monarchs bats came alive in game two as they win a wild one 19-13.
Goodland scored two runs in the first and five more in the second inning taking a seven-run lead into the second and they built an 11-2 run through four innings.
The Monarchs bats would come alive in the top of the inning scoring 11 runs to take a 13-11 lead. . Those 11 runs are more than TMP scored in their seven previous games combined.
Mason Davison drove in a pair of runs with an RBI double to start the inning. Nick Helget added a second two-run double of the inning cutting the deficit to five runs.
TMP scored a run on a walk with the bases loaded and followed that with runs on back-to-back wild pitches tying the game at 11.
Davison’s second RBI double of the inning broke the tie and gave TMP the 12-11 lead. The Monarchs added one more run on a wild pitch to take a 13-11 lead into the bottom of the fifth.
Jace Wentling’s sixth inning triple plated a pair of runs to make it 15-11.
After Goodland scored two runs in their half of the sixth TMP added four more in the seventh for the 19-13 win.
Bryce Conner and Nick Helget each drove in a run with an RBI single. Conner scored on an error to give TMP the 19-13 lead.
Nicholas Herrman got the win in relief. He allowed six unearned runs with four strikeouts and three walks in five and two-third innings.
TMP is 8-8 ahead of a matchup with Garden City on Tuesday.
