Ellis Co. per-day virus rate dips; two additional deaths announced

The Ellis County Health Department on Friday reported the average number of new coronavirus cases per day in the last seven days again fell from 38 on Wednesday to 34 on Friday.

The department also announced two additional coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the total to 28.

There were 52 new cases of COVID-19 identified in Ellis County since Wednesday. There are currently 438 active cases, including 10 active hospitalizations of Ellis County residents, and 1,880 recovered cases. As of Wednesday, there were 37 COVID-19 inpatients at HaysMed, according to The University of Kansas Health System.

The seven-day average of percent of positive tests rose slightly to 34.7 percent.

Since reporting began, there have been 2,346 cases of COVID-19 identified in Ellis County, including 28 virus-related deaths.

Of the total 12,934 tests administered, 16.9 percent have returned positive for coronavirus.

NOTE: "New cases" reflects cases reported by the Ellis County Health Department between regular reporting periods of Monday, Wednesday and Friday. "Total cases" reflects all cases reported by the department. Because of delayed test results, total cases might include cases prior to the previous reporting period, so the figures might not necessarily correspond.
