A gentle rain fell overnight Thursday in Hays, yielding a much-needed 1.54 inches according to the official report from the K-State Agricultural Research Center south of town.

Hays previously had just a third of an inch total moisture in May, bringing it to a total of 1.93 inches.

So far for the year, Hays has received 4.98 inches of moisture.

It's still well below the 153-year cumulative average of 7.81 inches of moisture for the year to date - nearly three inches less.&nbsp;
