Lavera Mae Towns

Lavera Mae Towns, age 95, of Hays, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Via Christi Village, Hays. She was born June 22, 1926, in Medford, Oklahoma to Peter M. and Susie (Janzen) Reimer. On January 1, 1947, she married Robert Dale Towns. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1989.

Lavera grew up on a farm near Medford, OK where she attended country grade and high school. In 1955, she and Robert moved to Palco, Kansas to farm, living there until moving to Ellis, KS in 2007 then to Hays, KS in 2013. She enjoyed being a homemaker, sewing, baking and especially her family. She had been a member of the Canaan Chapel Church of the Nazarene in Palco.

Survivors include a son, Dennis (Karen) Towns of Stratton, Colorado, two daughters, Susan (Bob) Schonthaler of Hays and Brenda (Randy) Gaines of Olathe, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Chad (Jessica) Towns, Megan (Clay) Tallmadge, Byron (Diana) Schonthaler, Alison (Bret) Elley, Stephanie Calvery, Ryan (Andrea) Gaines, Leah (Jeremy) Kirchoff, Robby (Brittany) Gaines; 19 great grandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild as well as one great great-grandchild on the way and a brother, Elmer Reimer of Enid, Oklahoma.

Preceding her in death, her husband, Robert; her parents; two brothers, Herman Reimer and an infant brother, John Marvin Reimer; four sisters, Clara Neuman, Martha Hedrick, Laura Ball, Gladys Taylor and their spouses.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, October 8, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church, Ellis, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery near Palco, Kansas. Visitation will be Thursday 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM all at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601. Friday visitation will be 1:00 PM until service time at the church.
