HILL CITY – The Plainville girls and the Trego boys won the team titles at Friday’s 2A Hill City Track and Field Regional. The Cardinals scored 88 points, outdistancing second place Ellis by 15 ½ points. The Golden Eagle boys scored 87 points and edged second place Hoxie by five points.
The Plainville girls won three events and qualified four
individual in six events for the 2A State Track and Field Meet. Gracie Kerns
won the long jump and triple jump, Jada Rathbun the 200 and Brooklyn Staab the
discus. Emma Rudman finished second in the shot put and discus and Staab was second
in the high jump. The Cardinals also finished first in the 4x100 meter relay.
The Plainville boys had seven individual qualify along with one relay. Brayden
Bittell was second in the discus. Jonah Smith finished third in the shot put,
Carter Cellmer was third in the triple jump and Brady Bouchey third in the 100
meters. Chayse McCullough finished fourth in the 3200 meters, Harley Padgett
fourth in the 110 high hurdles and the Cardinals finished fourth in the 4x100
meter relay.
The Ellis girls qualified four individuals in five events plus two relays.
Emily Eck won the 800 and the Railers won the 4x400 meter relay. Grace Eck was
second in the 800, Abigail North finished third in the 200 and Madelyn Russell
placed third in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600.
The Ellis boys qualified two individuals and the 4x400 meter relay which
finished first. Jacy Fischer finished second in the high jump and Rex Johnson
was fourth in the javelin.
The Trego boys qualified five
individuals in seven events along with two relays. Wyndon Giefer won the 3200
meters and finished second in the 1600. James Kreigh won the 200 and finished
second in the 100. Trevyne Brown placed third in both the 100 and 200. Gunner Wilson
won the triple jump and Owen Day was second in the javelin. The Golden Eagles
won the 4x400 meter relay and finished second in the 4x100.
The Trego girls qualified two individual. Lily Shubert won the 100 hurdles and
pole vault. Myah Mattheyer finished second in the triple jump.
The 2A State Track and Field meet takes place Saturday at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University.
