Hays, Colby residents among to be sworn in as new U.S. citizens

WICHITA – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the U.S. District Court of Kansas will welcome 100 people as new U.S. citizens, including Hays and  Colby residents, Friday at Wichita State University. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Mitchell Herren will preside, and a clerk of the court will administer the Oath of Allegiance.

The citizenship candidates originate from 28 countries: Australia, Benin, China, Congo (Kinshasa), El Salvador, Eritrea, Ethiopia, France, Guatemala, India, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mexico, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Somalia, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Syria, Sudan, Thailand, United Kingdom, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.

The citizenship candidates live in Andover, Bel Aire, Colby, Derby, Dodge City, Garden City, Great Bend, Hays, Haysville, Hoisington, Liberal, Lindsborg, McPherson, Modoc, Rose Hill, Salina, Valley Center and Wichita.

North High School color guard will open the ceremony. The League of Women Voters will be in the lobby if new citizens want to register to vote.

USCIS naturalized approximately 808,000 people in fiscal year 2021.
