
Randy Koerner, 79, Hays, died Thursday, November 13, 2205 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born December 19, 1945 in Hays, the son of Joseph A. and Bertha (Miller) Koerner. He graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in 1963 and earned his electronics certification from Wichita Technical Institute. Randy was part owner of Horizon Appliance and Video, and was an electronics technician and appliance serviceman. On July 7, 1979 he was united in marriage to Wanda Oplinger in Jewell, Kansas, and they celebrated 46 years of marriage.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the St. Mary’s Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #6984 and the Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Assembly #282. Randy enjoyed woodworking, small engine repair and his garage was his happy place. He was always willing to help anybody in need and he loved spending time with his friends and family.
Survivors include his wife Wanda of Hays, his sons Paul Koerner and wife Kim of Hutchinson, Mitch Koerner and wife Sheena of Parker, CO and Mike Koerner and wife Mindy of Parker, CO, his grandchildren, Mikayla, Ashton, Sierra, Mariah, Nora, and Thomas Koerner, two sisters-in-law, Judy Koerner of Hays and Maria Koerner of St. Louis, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Joe, Tom, and Skip Koerner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Don Zimmerman officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Tuesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 5:30 pm until 6:30, a vigil service will be at 6:30, followed by a combined Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Unify, Beautify, Glorify Campaign, to HaysMed Hospice, or for masses.
