WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Fort Hays State fell short in its regular season dual finale at Central Missouri on Sunday (Feb. 13). The Tigers started out strong, but after forfeiting at 141 the Mules picked up four straight decisions and the Tigers were unable to regain the lead. The Tigers finished the regular season 4-8 in duals, 1-3 in the MIAA, and the Mules end with a 6-8 overall record and 2-2 in the MIAA.
Broderick Green put the Tigers on the board with a 16-0 technical fall at 125 and Rhett Koppes helped supplement the lead with a 7-4 decision at 133, putting the Tigers up 8-0. UCM took advantage of a forfeit at 141 by the Tigers and then took an 18-8 lead with four straight decisions.
Marty Verhaeghe was able to pick up a 7-1 decision at 184 and Tereus Henry finished with a 10-3 decision at 197, putting the Tigers within four heading into the final match. A.J. Cooper scored a 1-0 decision to wrap up the dual as the Tigers fell short on team score by one.
The Tiger wrestling team begins preparation for the Super Region 6 Championships in Grand Junction, Colo. on February 26. Action begins at 11 a.m. MT / 12 p.m. CT.
