TOPEKA — The Osborne County District Court has opened a new self-help center in the Osborne County Courthouse.

The center has many preprinted court forms and a computer terminal to access the judicial branch’s online self-help center website, self-help.kscourts.gov, and participate in virtual hearings.

Visitors can also print court documents and forms for free.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except on state and federal holidays.

Sabrina Spurgin, clerk of the district court, said the center is an important resource for people who are representing themselves in court.

“It is a huge help to people involved in a court case who may not have access to a computer or a printer,” she said. “They can come to the courthouse and use the center to research their case, print court forms, and access resources on the self-help website.”

Spurgin said court staff can’t give legal advice, but they can help explain filing processes and check forms for completeness. Staff can also share information about legal resources such as legal aid programs and lawyer referral services.
